Commentary

Pour cet exemplaire, nous n’avons pas relevé d’identité de coin pertinente. Nous remarquons un début de cassure de coin au-dessus du koppa archaïque, formant un petit bourrelet de métal..
For this example, we have not noted any relevant die identity. We note the beginnings of a die break above the archaic koppa, forming a small metal rim.

Historical background

BRUTTIUM - CROTON

(530-510 BC)

Crotone is an Achaean colony founded in 710 BC Under the leadership of Milon, the Crotoniates captured Sybaris and destroyed it. In the following century, following internal struggles, the city declined before falling into the hands of Dionysius of Syracuse in 378 BC, then Agathokles in 296 BC and finally between those of Pyrrhus in 277 BCE. It was conquered by the Romans during the Second Punic War after the Battle of Cannae in 216 BC.
