Jules Hercules Mériadec, prince de Rohan est duc de Montbazon et porte de gueules à neuf macles d’or. Il commande le régiment d’infanterie de Rohan-Montbazon de 1745 jusqu’en 1759 lorsqu’il devient maréchal de camp. La famille de Rohan est issue des vicomtes de Rennes par Alain Ier qui reçut la terre de Rohan près de Pontivy avec le titre de vicomte vers 1120. les Rohan sont ensuite comtes puis ducs dès 1603. Les principales branches sont celles de Guéménée, Montbazon, Soubise. Les Rohan avaient rang de princes et avaient pris pour devise “Roi ne suis, duc ne daigne, Rohan suis”.

He commanded the Rohan-Montbazon infantry regiment from 1745 until 1759 when he became field marshal. The Rohan family descended from the Viscounts of Rennes through Alain I, who received the land of Rohan near Pontivy with the title of Viscount around 1120. The Rohans were then Counts and then Dukes from 1603. The main branches are those of Guéménée, Montbazon, and Soubise. The Rohans had the rank of princes and took as their motto “King is not, Duke does not deign, Rohan is”
