Commentary
Les monnaies de cuivre frappées entre 1823 et 1835 ont un poids variable selon les ateliers. Entre 1833 et 1835, ces monnaies font l’objet d’une réforme. Elles sont standardisées et contremarquées avec des valeurs faciales inférieures. Les monnaies de 20, 40 et 80 Reis frappées dans les ateliers de Rio de Janeiro et de Bahia recoivent respectivement une contremarque de 10, 20 et 40.
Copper coins minted between 1823 and 1835 had varying weights depending on the mint. Between 1833 and 1835, these coins were reformed. They were standardized and countermarked with lower face values. The 20, 40, and 80 Reis coins minted in the Rio de Janeiro and Bahia mints received a countermark of 10, 20, and 40, respectively.

(1831-1889)
Peter II (1825-1891) is the eldest son of Peter I of Braganza and Leopoldine of Habsburg. His father abdicated in his favor in 1831. Pierre II married Thérèse de Bourbon in 1843. He had to face the wars against Argentina (1851-1852) and Paraguay (1865-1870). The abolition of slavery in 1888 sounded the death knell for the Brazilian monarchy. Peter II was overthrown in November 1889. He died two years later in exile.
