Historical background

BRABANT - LORDSHIP OF RUMMEN - ARNOLD OF OREYE

(1355-1370)

Arnould is the son of Guillaume d'Oreye and Jeanne de Loos. He is lord of Rummen and Quaecbeke, pretender to the county of Loos. He married Isabelle de Flandre, daughter of Louis de Nevers. He died in 1373 without issue. During his reign, he was in conflict with the bishop of Liège about the succession of the county of Loos. He ended up selling his rights to Loos in 1367 to the Bishop of Liège. The sale of the seigneury of Chini to the Duke of Luxembourg would have enabled him to finance his monetary issues.
