La devise du droit rappelle les paroles du premier président et de l’évêque d’Autun lors de l’ouverture des États : Les trois Ordres seront fidèles. La couronne du droit rappelle la prise de Seurre où s’étaient réfugiés les Frondeurs.
En avril 1650, Louis XIV se rend en personne au siège de Seurre, ralliée à la Fronde, prise quelques jours plus tard.
