Commentary
Aux États de 1671, quand la couronne demanda deux millions deux cent mille livres, les Élus, comme à l'ordinaire, se montrèrent économes et offrirent un peu moins d'un million. Le roi, loin d'en être irrité, répondit : " C'est trop encore, je me contente de huit cent mille livres ; mon but a toujours été de soulager mes sujets". Cet acte de générosité causa un étonnement profond ; les États en corps portèrent chez le prince de Condé d'humbles remerciements au roi et protestèrent de leur fidélité inviolable. Le jeton interpréta de tels sentiments.
