Historical background

BOURBONNAIS, TOWNS AND GENTRY

The Bourbonnais roughly corresponds to the department of Allier, with Moulins as its capital. Domain of the lords of Bourbon, the Bourbonnais became duchy-peerage in 1327. In 1527, it was reunited with the Crown to become part of the government of Lyonnais.
