Commentary

Ce type présente bien une tête d’Apollon au droit plutôt que celle de Niké (Victoria) correspondant à ce module. Le coin ne semble pas regravé. La tête est gravée sommairement.
This type clearly has a head of Apollo on the obverse rather than that of Nike (Victoria) corresponding to this module. The die does not appear to be re-engraved. The head is roughly engraved.

BOSPHORUS KINGDOM OF BOSPHORUS - ASANDER

(48-16 BC)

archon

After Pharnaces was defeated at Zela in 47 BC and disappeared, Asander seized the throne after eliminating Mithridates of Pergamum. He married Pharnaces' daughter, Dynamis. He did not take the title of king, but contented himself with that of archon. He was recognized as king in 43 BC..
