Commentary

Exceptionnelle boîte en bois sculpté réalisée au XVIIe siècle et datée précisément de 1650. Le couvercle est amovible avec trois fermoirs en bronze ciselé. A l’intérieur la boite présente 40 compartiments avec les différents poids.
Les 40 poids sont tous différents, et correspondent à des monnaies circulants en Europe du Nord et du Sud aux XVI et XVII e siècles. Certains poids ne sont pas d’origine. Boîte complète avec ses poids reconstituée postérieurement.
Exceptional carved wooden box made in the 17th century and dated precisely 1650. The lid is removable with three chiseled bronze clasps. Inside the box has 40 compartments with different weights. The 40 weights are all different, and correspond to coins circulating in Northern and Southern Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. Some weights are not original.
