Superbe exemplaire sur un flan large avec une frappe centrée et vigoureuse des deux côtés. Agréable patine claire et un peu plus sombre dans les creux ou autour des reliefs

Commentary

Selon les analyses d’A. Pol, cette monnaie de 1,150 grammes a une teneur en or de 43 %.
Ce triens semble complètement inédit, avec une légende de droit qui ne laisse aucun doute sur son attribution à Blois. Le Belfort recense neuf triens différents pour six monétaires différents. Le Numéraire mérovingien recense huit types pour un total de 14 exemplaires étudiés !
Notre revers avec BAV(deux lettres ligaturées)DIGISILO se rapproche plus du nom LODEGISELVS (B. 875) tandis que le style du droit associé à la place des légende correspond plutôt aux monnaies de DOMMIO (B. 876-877). Les types avec un revers à la croix ancrée sont justement au nom de DOMMIO (B. 877), de AVDOALDVS (B. 878), de AVNOBERTVS (B. 879) et de BAVDVLFVS (B. 880).
Notre monétaire BAVDIGISILO est attesté dans divers ateliers (Alfeco, Cabilonnum, Campaniacum, Ironnum, Serotennum et Wultaconnum). Notons une certaine proximité entre Blois et Campaniacum (attribué à Champagné à côté du Mans, par Ponton d’Amécourt)

According to A. Pol's analyses, this 1,150 gram coin has a gold content of 43%. This triens seems completely new, with a legend on the obverse that leaves no doubt about its attribution to Blois. The Belfort lists nine different triens for six different coins. The Merovingian Numeraire lists eight types for a total of 14 examples studied! Our reverse with BAV (two ligatured letters) DIGISILO is closer to the name LODEGISELVS (B. 875) while the style of the obverse associated with the place of the legend corresponds more to the coins of DOMMIO (B. 876-877). The types with a reverse with an anchored cross are precisely in the name of DOMMIO (B. 877), AVDOALDVS (B. 878), AVNOBERTVS (B. 879) and BAVDVLFVS (B. 880). Our BAVDIGISILO coin is attested in various workshops (Alfeco, Cabilonnum, Campaniacum, Ironnum, Serotennum and Wultaconnum). Note a certain proximity between Blois and Campaniacum (attributed to Champagné near Le Mans, by Ponton d'Amécourt)
