Ce type semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous le proposons à la vente.

Historical background

BEOTIA - HALIARTOS

(6th - 5th century BC)

The territory of Haliartos was renowned in antiquity and is cited by Homer in the Illiad (2, 503). The city was defended by thick walls with an acropolis where a temple dedicated to Athena Itonia was located. Haliartos seems to have depended on Thebes. During the Persian invasion, Haliartos was one of the few cities in the region not to recognize the authority of Xerxes and was destroyed as such. The city was rebuilt soon after and was part of the first Béotin league (446-386 BC). The city was the capital of the second league in 378 BC.
