Commentary


Frappée en 1986, cette pièce fut la première monnaie officielle libellée en écu. Des pièces de 5 écus en argent et de 50 écus en or furent frappés en 1986. L'écu valait 5,79831 francs le 13 mars 1979 et presque 6,60 francs en 1995 quand il fut transformé en euro. Au droit figure le buste de Charles V (1500-1558), fils de Jeanne la Folle et de Philippe le Beau, le petit-fils des rois Catholiques, Ferdinand et Isabelle et de Maximilien de Habsbourg, qui fut le plus mortel ennemi de François Ier et d'Henri II et qui régnait sur "Un Empire où le soleil ne se couche jamais".
