Commentary

Like France, Belgium anticipated the mass production of Euro coins well before 2002. But in 1998 the Brussels commission modified the technical characteristics of the 10 Cent Euro coins. Indeed, following complaints from representatives of the visually impaired, it was decided that a wide-fluted edge would replace the finely ridged edge initially planned for the 10 Cent Euro coins. We can therefore refer to this coin as Type I of the Belgian 10 Cent Euro. This 10 Cent Albert II, first type (fine ridges), appeared on the collectors' market in 2018 following the closure of the minting workshops of the Royal Mint of Belgium (which has now delegated the minting of Belgian Euros to the Mint of the Netherlands).
