Exemplaire sur un flan très large et ovale, bien centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Importante trace de double frappe visible des deux côtés. Jolie patine vert foncé

Commentary


Follis anonyme. Classe A2. Les Évangiles sont richement ornés de dix globules posés cinq par cinq en rectangle séparés par un globue. Le nimbe crucigère porte sur chaque bras deux globules. Un trait de chaque côté au revers. Épigraphie élégante et raffinée. Ce follis lourd avec ces ornements semble beaucoup plus rare.

BASIL II and CONSTANTINE VIII

Basil II the Bulgaroctonus was the greatest emperor of the Macedonian dynasty which was shut down in 1056 with Theodora. Basil II was the son of Romanus II and Theophano. He was brought to power by his father, a child, 960. He was associated with the power under the successive reigns of Nicephorus II Phocas and John I. Constantine VIII, his brother, was subject throughout his reign and succeeded him in 1025 for only three years. Basile restored Byzantine rule in the Balkans and Asia Minor.
