The county of Bar was established as a duchy under Robert, between August 22 and October 17, 1354. On October 5, 1364, Robert married by proxy Marie de France, daughter of King Jean II of France, known as "le Bon". Robert's coinage may have ceased on 14 December 1399 when he ceded his lordships and revenues to his son Edward III. Robert de Bar died on April 12, 1411..
