Comme la plupart de ces deniers, cette pièce est frappée sur un flan irrégulier et présente une bonne partie des ses légendes hors flan. Exemplaire recouvert d’une patine grise. Quelques bras de la croix du revers apparaissent en négatif au droit et inversement

AUVERGNE - BISHOPRIC OF LE PUY - ANONYMOUS

(11th-12th centuries)

The bishopric of Velay was transferred in the 5th century to Mount Anis (Podium Aniciense) which is found on coins and which is the first name of the new town (Anicium). Adalard received the right to mint coins by a charter of April 8, 924 from King Raoul, a charter which was confirmed by Lothaire on March 8, 955. The viscounts of Polignac sold the monetary rights to Adhémar, bishop of Le Puy (1087-1102), for 25,000 Puy sous. Louis VI confirmed monetary law in 1134. In 1171, at the instigation of Louis VII, Pons viscount de Polignac recognized the right of Pierre, bishop of Le Puy. The coinage is still attested under the reign of Philippe IV le Bel.
