AUSTRIA - OLOMOUC - CHARLES III JOSEPH OF LORRAINE

(1695-1711)

Olmutz was founded by the Romans and in the Middle Ages the city was equipped with important fortifications so that in 1241, it resisted the Mongols. Olmutz was the capital of Moravia until the year 1641 and in 1642 the town was taken by the Swedes. Charles III Joseph of Lorraine succeeded Charles II of Lichtenstein in 1695; he is the brother of the Duke of Lorraine, Léopold. La Fayette was detained at Olmutz from 1794 to 1797.
