Historical background

AUSTRIA - FRANCIS IST OF AUSTRIA

(1792-1806-1835)

Francis of Austria (1768-1835) is the eldest son of Leopold II and Marie Louise de Bourbon. He is the last emperor of the Holy Roman Empire (1792-1806) under the name of François II and the first emperor of Austria under the name of François Ier (1806-1835). He was one of Napoleon's most implacable enemies despite having given him his daughter Marie-Louise in marriage in 1810. With Metternich, he was one of the arbiters of Europe at the Congress of Vienna in 1815.
