Commentary
This type was created following the agreements signed in Paris on July 31, 1867 between France and Austria and only concerned the 4 and 8 florin gold coins corresponding to the 10 and 20 gold franc coins, Austria not wanting to accept bimetallism and preferring to keep monometallism. The coins were produced following the Austrian law of March 9, 1870 and production began in May of the same year. This type was minted until 1891: during the monetary reform of 1892, the crown replaced the florin, the production of specie was interrupted and the withdrawal of florin specie authorized by the law of August 2, 1892. Nevertheless, these coins continued to be accepted in the other countries of the Union at their original face value. All 1892 coins are official restrikes that were subsequently made from original dies by the Vienna Mint.
