Exemplaire sur un petit flan, parfaitement centré des deux cotés. Superbe portrait et revers de toute beauté ! Fine patine grise

Obverse description : Buste radié et cuirassé d’Aurélien à droite, avec pan de paludamentum, vu de trois quarts en avant (B01).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Aurelianus Augustus”, (L’empereur césar Aurélien auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : PACATO-R ORBIS/ -|-// AL.
Reverse description : Sol radié et nu marchant à gauche, le manteau flottant sur l'épaule gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un fouet de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Pacator Orbis”, (Le sauveur du monde).

Commentary


Avec son argenture. Rubans de type 3. Cuirasse et épaulière cloutées. Ptéryges larges. Paludamentum orné de l’égide. Seulement neuf exemplaires sont signalés dans l’ouvrage de P. Bastien et Robert Göbl, de son côté, n’avait répertorié que huit exemplaires pour cette première officine. Nous avons d’autre part quatre exemplaires dans le trésor de La Venèra et cinq dans celui de Gloucester.
With its silver plating. Type 3 ribbons. Studded breastplate and shoulder guard. Large pteryges. Paludamentum decorated with the aegis. Only nine examples are reported in the work of P. Bastien and Robert Göbl, for his part, had only listed eight examples for this first officina. We also have four examples in the treasure of La Venèra and five in that of Gloucester

AURELIAN

Aurelian was born around 207 in Sirmium. After a brilliant military career, he was proclaimed august at Sirmium after the death of Claudius II and remained sole emperor after the suicide of Quintille. He made the painful decision to abandon Dacia in 271, then attacked Zenobia and Vaballath by seizing Palmyra in 272. Then, he undertook the reconquest of the Gallic Empire and defeated Tetricus at Châlons-sur-Marne. He triumphs in Rome and saves the life of his famous prisoners. He was assassinated when he was preparing a campaign against the Sassanids in order to reconquer Mesopotamia..
