Commentary
Poitou, Saintonge et Angoumois... François de Villemontée fut marié avec Catherine de Thumery. Après s'être ruiné à son intendance, François de Villemontée mit sa femme au couvent et se fit prêtre. Avec l'influence de Le Tellier, il obtint l'évêché de Saint Malo.
Poitou, Saintonge, and Angoumois... François de Villemontée was married to Catherine de Thumery. After ruining himself in his stewardship, François de Villemontée put his wife in a convent and became a priest. With the influence of Le Tellier, he obtained the bishopric of Saint-Malo.

Historical background
AUNIS AND LA ROCHELLE
Between Poitou and Saintonge, Aunis has La Rochelle as its capital and also includes the towns of Brouage and Rochefort. Possession of the Plantagenets, it was taken in 1224 then lost during the Treaty of Brétigny (1360). Aunis revolts shortly after and gives itself to King Charles V. It is one of the bastions of Protestantism in the 16th century and at the beginning of the 17th century until the capture of La Rochelle in 1628.
