Large coup de démonétisation au revers. Usure importante mais type identifiable

Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Tête à droite, la chevelure en mèches en croissant dont les deux inférieures sont prolongées par le motif trilobé.

Reverse


Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Androcéphale à gauche, surmonté d’un aurige stylisé brandissant un fouet et tenant un torque ; sous le cheval, une tête d’Hélios stylisée.

Commentary


Ce quart de statère est d’un type complètement inédit, à rattacher aux émissions des Diablintes dites “à la Situle” (série 392 du Nouvel Atlas) et “au personnage allongé “ (série 362).
La monnaie DT. 2321 A (un statère) est décrite au revers comme ayant un personnage (...) levant la main (...) dont les cinq doigts sont bien apparentés. Il semblerait que la tête d’Hélios de notre quart de statère pourrait tirer son origine de cette main ? Ce motif est bien représenté sur les monnaies armoricaines et périphériques, en témoignent les monnaies DT. 2002-2004, 3285-3287, 3626-3628 etc...
Il nous a été donné de voir un statère de billon avec un personnage couché ayant une main sur-développée, à moins que ce ne soit un objet qui serait tenu par le personnage couché, ressemblant à cette “tête d’Hélios”....

Gold coins are attributed to them, of the Cenoman type but with a particular reverse, as well as weakly represented billon coins, known from surface research and excavations of the late sanctuary of Juvigné..
