Très bel exemplaire frappé sur un flan légèrement ovale. Droit et revers complets et bien centrés, sur un flan un peu court au revers. A noter un léger “pointage” au centre du revers

Commentary
Le Muret-Chabouillet, ainsi que Hucher décrivent au revers une “figure couchée tenant de chaque main une tête par les cheveux”. Dans L’Or gaulois, cahier Ernest Babelon, les auteurs distinguent cette série “au personnage allongé et tenant deux objets ovoïdes”, série reprise dans le Nouvel Atlas.
Sur cet exemplaire, le cou est très fort avec une base droite alors que la plupart des exemplaires de ce type ont une base arrondie.
Le Muret-Chabouillet, as well as Hucher, describe on the reverse a “reclining figure holding a head by the hair in each hand”. In L'Or gaulois, Ernest Babelon notebook, the authors distinguish this series “with a reclining figure holding two ovoid objects”, a series included in the New Atlas. On this example, the neck is very strong with a straight base, whereas most examples of this type have a rounded base.

GALLIA - AULERCI CENOMANI (Area of Le Mans)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Aulerci are a very large people who are subdivided into three large tribes, including the Aulerci Cenomani who were located to the south-east of the Aulerci Diablintes (Mayenne basin), in the current department of Sarthe. Their city in the Gallo-Roman era, Vindunum, perpetuates their name in the form of Le Mans. In 52 BC, they provided a contingent of five thousand men for the relief army of Vercingetorix, besieged in Alesia. Caesar (BG. VII, 75). Kruta: 72, 187, 266.
