Commentary
Cet exemplaire est d'un très beau style ; les coins ont été réalisés par un graveur de talent, ce qui plaide pour une frappe officielle plutôt qu'un faux d'époque.
Certaines de ces petites monnaies sont très souvent, voir toujours fourrées. Ce phénomène s'observe aussi pour des séries d'hémi-statères normands qui sont toujours en métal plus noble à l'extérieur qu'à l'intérieur...
L'inventaire de G. Depeyrot, série 92, reprend toutes les monnaies des types LT. 5967, 5973 et 5980 sans distinction !
Ce revers à la victoire est plus rare que ceux avec les deux carnyx.
This example is of a very beautiful style; the dies were made by a talented engraver, which argues for an official strike rather than a contemporary fake. Some of these small coins are very often, or even always, filled. This phenomenon is also observed for series of Norman hemi-staters which are always made of nobler metal on the outside than on the inside... The inventory of G. Depeyrot, series 92, includes all the coins of the LT types. 5967, 5973 and 5980 without distinction! This victory reverse is rarer than those with the two carnyxes

GALLIA - AULERCI CENOMANI (Area of Le Mans)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Aulerci are a very large people who are subdivided into three large tribes, including the Aulerci Cenomani who were located to the south-east of the Aulerci Diablintes (Mayenne basin), in the current department of Sarthe. Their city in the Gallo-Roman era, Vindunum, perpetuates their name in the form of Le Mans. In 52 BC, they provided a contingent of five thousand men for the relief army of Vercingetorix, besieged in Alesia. Caesar (BG. VII, 75). Kruta: 72, 187, 266.
