Obverse translation : “Cæsar Augustus Divi Filius Pater Patriæ”, (César Auguste fils du divin (César) père de la patrie).

Reverse


Reverse legend : TI CAESAR// AVG F TR POT - XV.
Reverse description : Tibère dans un char triomphal (quadrige) au pas à droite, tenant le scipio et les rênes.
Reverse translation : “Tiberius Cæsar Augusti Filius Tribunicia Potestate quintum decimum”, (Tibère césar fils d’Auguste revêtu de la quinzième puissance tribunitienne).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3. C’est l’un des derniers types frappés du vivant d’Auguste. Pour ce type, il existe deux types de revers : le premier avec les quatre chevaux regardant à droite ; le second avec deux des quatre chevaux qui tournent la tête à droite .

AUGUSTUS and TIBERIUS

(2-14)

Tiberius, son-in-law (son of Livia) and son-in-law (husband of Julie) of Augustus experienced a long crossing of the desert between 6 BC and 2 AD, in exile in Rhodes . He returned to Rome after the death of Gaius Caesar and two years later was appointed as Augustus' successor and associated with power. In 14 at the death of Augustus, he succeeded him without problem.
