Artukids Mardin - Hosam AL DIN YULUK Arslan

The Artukids were a Uighur tribe (Turks from Turkestan), whose leader Urtuk the founder of the eponymous dynasty established in Diyarbakir and Mardin, strategic points on the Silk Road, providing access to Anatolia, Syria, Iraq and Iran. They were eventually absorbed into the federation turckmène of "Black Sheep". Hosam ed din Yuluq Arslan, dubbed the "Lion bald", was shown alongside Saladin at the Battle of Hattin (1187), a severe defeat of the Crusaders who brought about the fall of Jerusalem after eighty years of Latin occupation.
