The Banco de Buenos Aires, commonly known as the Banco Nacional, was created in 1822 at the behest of Governor Martín Rodríguez. The first coins were minted in 1822 and 1823 by Boulton & Watt (Soho Mint) of Birmingham. Subsequent coins were produced in Buenos Aires.
