Le duché de Bouillon avait été vendu par Godefroi de Bouillon à l’évêque de Liège pour financer son départ à la croisade en 1095. En 1483, la maison de La Marck s’en empare avant d’en être dépossédée par Charles Quint en 1521 puis elle le reprend à nouveau en 1548. En 1552, Bouillon est envahi par les Français jusqu’en 1559. La place est rendue par le roi de France après la paix de Cateau-Cambrésis du 3 avril 1559 avec les autres conquêtes en Savoie, Piémont, Charolais, Bugey et la Bresse.
The Duchy of Bouillon had been sold by Godfrey of Bouillon to the Bishop of Liège to finance his departure for the crusade in 1095. In 1483, the House of La Marck seized it before being dispossessed by Charles V in 1521 and then recaptured it again in 1548. In 1552, Bouillon was invaded by the French until 1559. The place was returned by the King of France after the Peace of Cateau-Cambrésis of April 3, 1559, along with the other conquests in Savoy, Piedmont, Charolais, Bugey and Bresse.
