Exemplaire sur un flan ovale bien centré des deux côtés Beau portrait d’Honorius. Frappe molle au revers. Belle patine vert foncé

Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé d’Arcadius à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A’a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : "Dominus Noster Arcadius Pius Felix Augustus" (Notre seigneur Arcadius pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : VIRTVS - EXERCITI/ -|-// CONSB.
Reverse description : Arcadius, vêtu militairement debout à gauche, tenant une haste de la main droite, la main gauche appuyée sur un bouclier couronné par Victoria, placée derrière lui.
Reverse translation : "Virtus Exerciti" (La virilité de l’armée).

Commentary


Poids léger. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Le diadème se termine par un cabochon carré. Fibule ronde. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum. Type rare pour l’atelier de Constantinople.

ARCADIUS

(19/01/383-1/05/408) Flavius Arcadius

Arcadius was born in 377. Proclaimed by his august father, 19 January 383, he received the East inheritance after the death of Theodosius. The Emperor, low, left Rufin govern the prefect of the praetorium and Eutropius, a eunuch of the palace. The Empress Eudoxia had a considerable influence on the emperor and military power was in the hands of Gainas a Goth. In 402, Arcadius associated his son, Theodosius II, born the previous year and a quarrel ensued with Honorius. Arcadius died in 408, aged 30.
