Commentary


Ce très rare potin n’était répertorié que par un seul exemplaire, celui de la collection Charmasson, dans l’ouvrage de C. Larozas.
Indiqué “Potin au rameau, groupe C”, cette monnaie serait attribuée à Orange selon C. Larozas (?), attribution plus précise que la traditionnelle “Vallée du Rhône” !.

Orange, "Colonia Firma Julia Secundanorum Arausio" was founded in 35 BC by veterans of the "II Legio Gallica" whose emblem was a ram's head on a shield which is found in the center of the reverse of the dupondii attributed to the city.
