Historical background

AQUITAINE - DUCHY OF AQUITAINE - WILLIAM IX

(1086-1127)

Guillaume IX (1071-1127) is Count of Poitiers, Duke of Aquitaine and Gascony (1086-1127). He is also nicknamed the Troubadour because of the texts in the Romance language that he composed and which are among the oldest French poems on courtly love; we now have eleven left. William seized the county of Toulouse twice in 1098-1100 and 1119-1125/7.
