Historical background


ANNAM - KHAI DINH

(1916-1925)

Prince Buu Dao, son of Emperor Dong Khanh (1885-1889), little nephew of Tu Duc succeeded Duy Tan (1907-1916) who had revolted against France in May 1916 and was exiled to Reunion. Buu Dao took the name Khai Dinh on becoming Emperor of Annam. He is under the protection of the French. He died on November 6, 1925. His son Prince Vinh Thuy (1913-1997) succeeded him under the name of Bao Dai. This was to be the last emperor of Annam (1926-1945).
