Commentary


Claude Lhoste est un fameux sculpteur animalier, né en 1929 et mort en 2010 ; il reçut en 1965 le grand prix de sculpture de la société nationale des beaux-arts. Il réalise de nombreuses sculptures d'animaux, les saisissant dans un mouvement révélateur, une pose caractéristique...

Les Alcédinidés ou Alcedinidae forment une famille d'oiseaux plus connus sous les noms de martins-pêcheurs et martins-chasseurs. Ce sont des oiseaux compacts de taille petite à moyenne (10 à 46 cm), au bec droit et long, en forme de poignard. Leurs pattes sont courtes, et ils portent un plumage aux couleurs vives.
Claude Lhoste is a famous animal sculptor, born in 1929 and died in 2010; he received the Grand Prix de Sculpture from the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1965. He created numerous animal sculptures, capturing them in a revealing movement, a characteristic pose... The Alcedinidae or Alcedinidae form a family of birds better known as kingfishers and kingfishers. They are compact birds of small to medium size (10 to 46 cm), with a long, straight, dagger-shaped beak. Their legs are short, and they have brightly colored plumage.
