Il s’agit d’une refrappe de la deuxième moitié du XXe siècle.
François Maurice Thénot (1893-1963) est un sculpteur et médailliste, médaille d'argent au Salon des Artistes français en 1936.
Cette plaquette rentre dans une série d’animaux de la jungle. On connaît les plaquettes représentant les koudous, les impalas, le cougar, les girafes, le buffle, un combat d'antilopes, les lions, l'éléphant et le rhinocéros, en plus du python.
