Rare monnaie sur un flan un peu court avec des types assez bien centrés, mais avec un plat de frappe sur l’une des deux victoires du revers. Métal avec un aspect hétérogène, un peu granuleux par endroits

Classées en “imitations romaines immobilisées”, ces monnaies anglo-saxonnes restent rares mais semblent avoir eu une large circulation, tant en Angleterre, qu’en Frise et en Gaule. L’exemplaire B. 5446 a été trouvé à Dombourg..

(7th - 8th centuries)
If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
