Monnaie intéressante, avec un avers complet mais un revers légèrement décentré. Fine patine grise et poreuse, avec l’annelet devant la bouche plus foncé

Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.

Obverse description : Tête barbare, très stylisée à droite, les cheveux hirsutes ; le croissant principal est fin et orné d’un œil triangulaire et de deux globules pour la bouche ; un annelet pointé devant le menton.

Reverse

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.

Reverse description : Carré perlé, avec un annelet pointé au centre, accosté de quatre motifs dans les angles ; des chevrons autour du carré perlé.

Commentary

Avec ce type de tête et un petit annelet devant la bouche, ce sceat correspond au n° 196 d’Oxford. Ce type caractéristique est aussi repris sous forme de dessin à la page 216 de l’ouvrage de Metcalf. Cette monnaie correspond au type VICO, variété 3 (provenant d’une trouvaille de la région de King Lynn).
T. Abramson ne reprend pas ce type précis, mais un autre type présente un avers comparable (cf. E420 p. 88).
Il est probable que cette monnaie soit de Quentovic !.
With this type of head and a small ringlet in front of the mouth, this sceat corresponds to Oxford No. 196. This characteristic type is also reproduced in the form of a drawing on page 216 of Metcalf's work. This coin corresponds to the VICO type, variety 3 (from a find in the King Lynn region). T. Abramson does not reproduce this precise type, but another type has a comparable obverse (see E420 p. 88). It is likely that this coin is by Quentovic!
