Très belle petite monnaie, sur un flan court et épais, avec des types incomplets mais de frappe vigoureuse. Agréable patine de médaillier, avec des zones plus sombres

Commentary
Pour cette série D, les monnaies avec la tête à gauche sont largement minoritaires. Le flan est trop court sur cet exemplaire pour déterminer s’il y a ou pas une légende devant le visage. Le même revers est associé aux deux types d’avers.

(7th - 8th centuries)
If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
