I ANDRONICUS COMNÈNE

Andronicus I Comnenus succeeded Alexis II after the murder of Mary of Antioch, the wife of Manuel I. Andronicus was a cousin of Manuel Comnenus family. He had led an adventurous life and reached the age of sixty years empire. In August 1185 the Normans captured Thessaloniki and the crowd massacred Andronicus I. Sept. 12 to Constantinople. The reign of the Emperor had been brief and violent.
