Commentary


Sur cet exemplaire, la tête de face est assez simple, mais les sourcils, les yeux, le nez et les moustaches suffisent à rendre la tête évidente.
Trente quatre monnaies de ce types sont gravées dans l'ouvrage de Jeuffrain, sous la “1ère classe, 1ère division”.

The Andécaves or Andes, whose territory extended north of the Loire on the banks of the Mayenne, occupied Anjou, which today corresponds to the departments of Maine-et-Loire and Sarthe. Their name is found in the city of Angers, the ancient Juliomagus. They are cited by Caesar in the Gallic Wars. Caesar (BG. II, 35; III, 7, VII, 4; VIII, 26). Ptolemy (G. II, 8); Pliny (HN. IV, 107).
