Obverse description : Buste casqué, diadémé et cuirassé d'Anastase de face, tenant de la main droite la lance placée sur l'épaule et de la gauche un bouclier orné d'un cavalier bondissant à droite (N'a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Anastasius Perpetuus Augustus” (Notre seigneur Anastase perpétuel auguste).


Reverse legend : VICTORI-A AVGGA / -|* // CONOB.
Reverse description : Victoire debout à gauche, tenant une longue croix de la main droite ; étoile à huit rais dans le champ à gauche.
Reverse translation : “Victoria Augustorum” (La Victoire des augustes).


Premier type de solidus du règne d’Anastase, frappé avant la réforme monétaire de 498. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées.

After Zeno's assassination, Anastase marries Ariadne who chooses him as emperor. His very long reign of 27 years restores imperial power. He died without an heir, but is today considered the founder of the Byzantine Empire.
