Commentary
This treizain is actually composed of twelve denarii to be married in the format of the denarius tournois. The denarii are of the assembled bracteate type. Custom dictated that the priest would take one of the denarii from the treizain. The explanations of Monsieur Térisse in particular, suggest that since 13 is an evil number, it was necessary to exclude one denarius from its set, representing, moreover, in some way, the “denarius of Judas”
