Mathieu dit Édouard Aynard (1837-1913) est un banquier et un homme politique lyonnais, catholique et libéral, ancien député du Rhône et grand mécène. Il est officier de la Légion d'honneur. Il achète l'Abbaye Notre-Dame de Fontenay et la fait restaurer. Il s'y marie le 29 avril 1862 avec Rose Pauline de Montgolfier, petite-fille de Marc Seguin.

He was an officer of the Legion of Honour. He purchased the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Fontenay and had it restored. He married Rose Pauline de Montgolfier, granddaughter of Marc Seguin, there on 29 April 1862.

Historical background
LOVE AND MARRIAGE
It was customary in the past to give a treizain during the wedding mass. This treizain was blessed and signified entry into a community of property for the married couple. The treizain, which later became a medal or wedding token, was so called in honor of Jesus Christ and the twelve apostles. This practice continued until the first half of the 20th century. The reference work on the subject is the work of Jules Florange, Love and marriage in numismatics, Moulins, 1936 now replaced by that of Henri Térisse, La Numismatique du Mariage, Argenton-sur-Creuse 2008.
