Patine claire peu brillante. Présence de traces d’usure et de rayures à l’avers, au revers et sur la tranche. Quelques coups sont également visibles sur la tranche. Médaille nettoyée

Obverse legend : MARIAGE - CHRETIEN.
Obverse description : Deux époux, face à face, vêtus à l’antique, prêtent serment devant un autel gothique. A droite, l’époux tient la main droite de sa promise et lève la gauche au dessus d’un livre sacré. Au centre de l’autel se tient une vierge à l’enfant. Signé au centre de l’exergue : PINGRET F. avec un point après le F. La signature est assez proche de celle de la référence précédente mais très mal alignée avec le F sous le bout du pied. Les caractères sont plus petits.

Historical background
LOVE AND MARRIAGE
It was customary in the past to give a treizain during the wedding mass. This treizain was blessed and signified entry into a community of property for the married couple. The treizain, which later became a medal or wedding token, was so called in honor of Jesus Christ and the twelve apostles. This practice continued until the first half of the 20th century. The reference work on the subject is the work of Jules Florange, Love and marriage in numismatics, Moulins, 1936 now replaced by that of Henri Térisse, La Numismatique du Mariage, Argenton-sur-Creuse 2008.
