Médaille célébrant le mariage de Marguerite Livio et Henri de la Tour.
Conservateur Adjoint au Cabinet des Médailles de la Bibliothèque Nationale, membre de la Société Nationale des Antiquaires de France, maître incontesté de la numismatique gauloise, auteur de l'Atlas des Monnaies Gauloises, plus connu sous le nom du "La Tour". Il est aussi vice-président de la Société de la Haute-Auvergne en 1809. M. de la Tour a été un érudit très sûr et très fin, dont les savantes études sur les monnaies gauloises, sur les médailleurs de la Renaissance et sur les jetons français, resteront; son travail sur le médailleur napolitain Jean de Candida, a révélé un artiste délicat, jusqu'alors inconnu, et dont l'influence sur l'art français fut profonde. M. de la Tour a également collaboré à la Revue, dont il était un des amis fidèles.

Assistant Curator at the Cabinet des Médailles of the Bibliothèque Nationale, member of the Société Nationale des Antiquaires de France, undisputed master of Gallic numismatics, author of the Atlas des Monnaies Gauloises, better known under the name of \\\"La Tour\\\". He was also vice-president of the Société de la Haute-Auvergne in 1809. Mr. de la Tour was a very sure and very fine scholar, whose scholarly studies on Gallic coins, on the medalists of the Renaissance and on French tokens, will remain; his work on the Neapolitan medalist Jean de Candida, revealed a delicate artist, hitherto unknown, and whose influence on French art was profound. Historical background


LOVE AND MARRIAGE

It was customary in the past to give a treizain during the wedding mass. This treizain was blessed and signified entry into a community of property for the married couple. The treizain, which later became a medal or wedding token, was so called in honor of Jesus Christ and the twelve apostles. This practice continued until the first half of the 20th century. The reference work on the subject is the work of Jules Florange, Love and marriage in numismatics, Moulins, 1936 now replaced by that of Henri Térisse, La Numismatique du Mariage, Argenton-sur-Creuse 2008.
