Obverse legend : PRO VITA.
Obverse description : L’Amour, debout sur un autel décoré, étend ses bras au-dessus d’un couple vêtu à l’ancienne, face à face. Sa main droite tient une couronne au-dessus de l’épouse, sa main gauche brandit un arc au-dessus de l’époux qui tient de sa main droite la main droite de l’épouse. De part et d’autre, deux lampes allumées. Signé : H. ALLOUARD.

Reverse legend : MA / 7 AOUT / 1947.
Reverse description : Cartouche rectangulaire surmonté de deux flambeaux en sautoir, entouré de lis, branches de chêne et d’olivier. Livre ouvert à l’exergue avec quelques roses.

Historical background
LOVE AND MARRIAGE
It was customary in the past to give a treizain during the wedding mass. This treizain was blessed and signified entry into a community of property for the married couple. The treizain, which later became a medal or wedding token, was so called in honor of Jesus Christ and the twelve apostles. This practice continued until the first half of the 20th century. The reference work on the subject is the work of Jules Florange, Love and marriage in numismatics, Moulins, 1936 now replaced by that of Henri Térisse, La Numismatique du Mariage, Argenton-sur-Creuse 2008.
