Flan relativement large et un peu irrégulier, avec une frappe relativement centrée des deux côtés. Une importante cassure de coin sur le revers

Commentary
Normalement, ces exemplaires ont une rosace entre les jambes du cheval. Sur certaines monnaies, l’usure de la rosace peut donner cette impression, mais il semble bien que ce soit un gros globule circulaire que le graveur ait voulu faire ! L’étroitesse du flan et la simplicité de la gravure laisse penser à un monnayage tardif, peut-être imité ailleurs que chez les ambiens. Certains de ces quarts nous ont été signalés comme provenant de l’Aube...
Cet exemplaire est du même coin de revers que le n° 716 de MONNAIES XXVI, caractéristique avec la cassure de coin au-dessus du cheval.
Normally, these examples have a rosette between the horse's legs. On some coins, the wear of the rosette can give this impression, but it seems that it was a large circular globule that the engraver wanted to make! The narrowness of the flan and the simplicity of the engraving suggest a late coinage, perhaps imitated elsewhere than among the Ambiens. Some of these quarters have been reported to us as coming from Aube... This example is from the same reverse die as No. 716 of MONNAIES XXVI, characteristic with the die break above the horse

AMBIANI (Area of Amiens)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
Their name, "those who are on both sides of the river", indicates that the Ambiens, people of Belgian Gaul, occupied both banks of the Somme (Samara). Their territory corresponds to the current department of the Somme. Their neighbors were the Calètes, the Morins, the Atrébates, the Bellovaques. Their main oppidum was Samarobriva (near Amiens). They participated in the coalition of the Belgian peoples in 57 BC and provided a contingent of ten thousand men. In 52 BC, it was a contingent of five thousand men that they gave for the relief army dedicated to clearing Alesia. Caesar (BG. II, 4, 15; VII, 75; VIII, 7). Strabo (G. IV, 5). Kruta: 68, 110, 366.
