Cette pièce est frappée sur un flan assez large et régulier laissant apparaître une bonne partie des grènetis extérieurs. Exemplaire recouvert d’une patine grise et présentant des reliefs assez nets. Exemplaire ayant conservé l’essentiel de son brillant de frappe au revers

ALSACE - BISHOPRIC OF STRASBOURG - LOUIS-CONSTANTIN DE ROHAN GUÉMÉNÉE
(1756-1779)
Louis-Constantin de Rohan (1697-1779) was first a Knight of Malta and captain of a ship before taking orders. He was first canon of Strasbourg before becoming co-adjutor of his uncle Armand Gaston de Rohan (1674-1749) from 1730. He became chaplain to the king in 1748 and succeeded his cousin, Armand, prince de Rohan Soubise (1749-1756), as bishop of Strasbourg. He was made cardinal in 1761. His nephew Louis, Prince of Rohan, (1734-1803) succeeded him in 1779. The latter is best known for his unfortunate participation in the so-called "queen's necklace" affair..
