ALSACE - CITY OF STRASBOURG

(12th century)

At the time of the dissolution of the Carolingian Empire, Alsace was included in Lotharingia in 843 then fell to Louis the German in 870. In 925, it was attached to the Duchy of Swabia by Henri l'Oiseleur. In the 13th century, the Habsburgs appropriated Upper Alsace. In the 14th century, the authority of the bishops of Strasbourg was reduced to Lower Alsace. The Reformation was introduced in Strasbourg in 1529.
