ALSACE - BISHOPRIC OF STRASBOURG AND METZ - CHARLES II OF LORRAINE-VAUDÉMONT

(1593-1607)

Charles II of Lorraine-Vaudemont succeeded Jean de Manderscheid. Charles II de Lorraine-Vaudemont is the second son of the Duke of Lorraine Charles III (1545-1608) and Claude de France, who died on February 22, 1574. His elder brother, Henri de Lorraine, became Duke of Lorraine on the death of Charles II (1608-1624). Charles II of Lorraine-Vaudemont was the 87th bishop of Metz; he was at the same time bishop of Strasbourg and died in 1607. His arms are: quartered at 1 of the bishopric of Strasbourg, at 2 and 3, part of three lines and cut, which makes eight quarters: 1 Hungary; 2 Napoli; 3 Jerusalem; 4 Aragón; 5 Anjou; 6 Gelderland; 7 July; 8 Bar; at 4 of the lower Landgraviate and on the whole of Lorraine.
