Historical background

ALLEYRAT (ELARIACO) - Corrèze, town of Limoges

(7th century)

Alleyrat is no more than a small village in the Creuse, in the Limousin. Two or three Merovingian coins seem to be attributed to him. The region has many remains from the Romanesque period, including the cul-de-four choir of the church of Alleyrat (typical of Limousin Romanesque), built over a 12th century crypt.
